Court records modules & options

The Court Records search type exposes six Modules in the captured build. Each Module is a card in the grid that runs one search against a specific data source — the external service that holds the records — or, for Court Records (OneScan), across several country data sources at once. Selection is single-select: the active tile carries a coral-orange border and title.

Court Records is unusual in one respect: its default Module is the OneScan Module. It opens with Court Records (OneScan) already selected and badged RECOMMENDED, whereas in most search types OneScan sits alongside a single-source default.

Caution

Only the Court Records (OneScan) cost was captured on screen — “$0.60 | Dynamic (0.12 - 0.60)”, the sum of the country data sources left enabled. The exact Credit cost of each of the five single-country Modules — UK National Archives, CourtListener, OCCRP Aleph, A2AJ, and Judilibre — was not captured. Confirm the Cost per search line on the tile before running any paid Module.

The lead Module: Court Records (OneScan)

Court Records (OneScan) is pre-selected when you open the search type and is badged RECOMMENDED. Its greyed sub-label reads (OneScan) over the descriptor “Multi-source scan,” and its description panel reads: “Search across multiple court record services simultaneously, then compare results side by side.” A single OneScan search fans one query out across several country data sources and merges the results, so the results table attributes each row to the data source that returned it.

Its query field is labelled Search Query, with the helper text “Enter any phrase, email, username, phone number, name, address, or other term to search across court records” and the placeholder “e.g. John Smith.” Its Cost per search line reads “$0.60 | Dynamic (0.12 - 0.60)” — dynamic, the sum of the country data sources left toggled on (per Lee, 2026-07-08).

Note

Court Records opens with the Court Records (OneScan) card pre-selected as the app’s fixed out-of-box default for this Search type, not a last-used choice (per Lee, 2026-07-10). You can still click any other Module before running.

The single-country Modules

Five Modules query one country’s court-record data source directly. Pick these when you want a specific country rather than the merged OneScan run:

• Court Records (Data: UK, National Archives) — UK court records via the UK National Archives.
• Court Records (Data: USA, CourtListener) — US court records via CourtListener.
• Court Records (Data: Russia, OCCRP Aleph) — Russia court records via OCCRP Aleph.
• Court Records (Data: Canada, A2AJ) — Canada court records via A2AJ.
• Court Records (Data: France, Judilibre) — France court records via Judilibre.

These five are the same country data sources that Court Records (OneScan) aggregates. Being single-source, they are fixed-priced under the cost model, but their individual per-search amounts were not captured — see the caution above.

Choose Data Source

The Court Records (OneScan) tile carries a gear icon that opens a Choose Data Source modal — the lever for OneScan’s dynamic cost. Following the OneScan pattern used across UserSearch, the modal lists the country data sources OneScan can query, each with a toggle and its own per-search cost, summed into a Total that becomes the Cost per search. Turning a country off removes its cost and narrows coverage; turning it on widens coverage and raises the cost, so the price moves within the captured range $0.12 to $0.60. Caution

The Court Records Choose Data Source modal itself was not captured in the reference build, so its individual per-country data-source costs and exact controls are not asserted here — only the OneScan total (“$0.60 | Dynamic (0.12 - 0.60)”) and that it sums the enabled country sources were observed. Whether the country data sources toggled on by default are a fixed set or reflect a persisted preference is not yet confirmed. Open the modal to see the live per-country costs and current selection before you rely on them.

Per-tile affordances

Each Module tile shows a data-source icon (a country flag for the single-country Modules), a bold Court Records title, a greyed sub-label (either “(OneScan)” or the country data source as “(Data: …)”), and a short descriptor. Every tile also carries a circular ”?” help icon, and the OneScan tile additionally carries the gear icon that opens Choose Data Source.
