GLEIF (the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation) maintains the worldwide registry of Legal Entity Identifiers (LEIs) — 20-character codes that uniquely identify legal entities participating in financial transactions. UserSearch integrates GLEIF as a Module, giving you direct access to official LEI records from inside the platform.

What it is

An LEI is a globally standardised (ISO 17442) reference code assigned to a legal entity — a company, fund, or other organisation. GLEIF publishes the open, authoritative dataset that ties each LEI to the registered details of the entity it identifies, drawn from accredited issuers around the world. This makes GLEIF a registry / official source: the data originates from formal registration records rather than from crowdsourced or inferred material.

What data it returns

For a matched legal entity, GLEIF can surface:

• LEI — the entity’s 20-character Legal Entity Identifier
• Legal name of the entity
• Registered address and headquarters address
• Jurisdiction and legal form / registration authority
• Registration status and the LEI record’s issuance, last-update, and next-renewal dates
• Corporate relationships — parent and child entity links where reported

UserSearch search types and Modules that use it

GLEIF powers the Corporate search type in UserSearch. It is the data source behind the LEI Search Module, which lets you look up an organisation by its Legal Entity Identifier or legal name and retrieve the registered identity details GLEIF holds for it.

2. Select the LEI Search Module.
3. Enter your input — an LEI or a legal entity name — and run the search.

GLEIF data is sourced from the official LEI registry, so listed records are authoritative, but coverage is limited to entities that have obtained and maintained an LEI — many smaller organisations do not have one, and an entity’s absence from results does not mean it does not exist. Record accuracy also depends on the entity keeping its LEI registration current: lapsed or not-renewed records may carry stale details. Confirm status and freshness against the live record before relying on it for a search. These characteristics await confirmation.
